I. tRL Photo Hold'em: We are working on the next Photo Hold'em post, but because we are neurotic perfectionists, we're taking some extra time getting it .. just .. absolutely .. perfectly .. perfect. But that's the cool thing with runnin' a blog -- no real "deadlines" or whip-crackin' bosses enforcin'. Please bear with us. And while we're on the subject, we're happy to announce that we have a media partner for the Photo Hold'em project! Eugene Buchanan's new publication, PADDLING LIFE is now a tRL Photo Hold'em sponsor. A handful of the best shots entered in the contest will be run in the pages of the new pub. So, players, work that little nugget of info into your strategery for the final rounds of the game.

II. Katie H. Benefit: Big props to Mike Brown & PIKES PEAK WHITEWATER CLUB (Colorado Springs) for cat herdin' the ww community & hosting a very successful benefit party to raise funds for Katie Hilleke's battle against cancer. PPWC was able to raise over $4,000 in donations -- very, very awesome.

III. Water water everywhere .. & some snow too:

As most people have heard by now, the Pacific NW has been quite damp lately. We've been in the crosshairs of a relentless cycle of Pacific moisture, starting with the infamous "PINEAPPLE EXPRESS" a couple weeks back. The flooding throughout the NW & lower BC has been widespread & damaging.

While the snow level has crept lower -- providing the Cascades with the first big snow accumulations of the season -- most of the streams in the region remain swollen. Our sporting pal Matt (aka "Effigy", aka "Ladylumps") Thomas has been takin' notes over at his site MEDIOCRE KAYAKING(<-- really good stuff here! clickit!)

Mt. Baker opens today! Check out the rest of Monday's DUMP PHOTOS! The coveted NW Day of Sporting is very attainable right now, as there's plenty of frozen rad to be shredded, & all the creeks & rivers are running too.

And over on the Right Coast, things are charging as well. THIS POST on Boatertalk made me grin. Get after it, bastards.

IV. THIS might make you grin. ... Ok, HERE'S THE BACKSTORY.
